I'm writing a poem and I'm at a point where I'm struggling to hold on!. The feel and structure of my poem thus far is a word ending in -ing leading into a phrase!. For example: Hoping!.!. that this distance has an end!.

SO!.!. i'm looking for a word to fill in this line: ______ !.!.!. trying to hold on!.

I want to use something along the lines of "reaching", because i dont think reaching quite fits!. So, a synonym for reaching is what I'm after, unless you have another word you think might fit!
