Question: Who will read my poem !? Alzheimer's!?
My dad has Alzheimer's and can no longer converse with anyone He doesn't know anyone and only vaguely recognizes my mum his wife of almost 50 years Mum and dad had 7 kids and he doesn't know any of us I have had the privilege of caring for my dad through his illness and I think that he would want to say this to her

Alzheimer’s With You

Hold my hand and walk with me
I know you’re holding tight
I’m forgetting lots of things I know
It’s like a fading light
Sometimes I see it brighter
Than I ever saw it before
But before I know it’s gone
Locked away forever more

I want to go out wandering
But I can’t remember to where
Can you hold my hand and guide me
We could get there with a wing and a prayer
I can see the light becoming brighter now
And everyone I see I know
Familiar faces laughing and smiling
So I stop to say ‘Hello’

Suddenly things don’t look too familiar
And the light starts to fade once more
I can feel you clasping tight to my hand
And memories swim free once more
Away from those old friends and places
I go wandering and searching with you
But the light is quick to fade again
And I don’t know what to do

One day four men came to visit me
They were all fine young men indeed
I thought I knew them all at first
But the light began to recede
I felt you hold my hand again
And your touch was firm and true
You told me the boys were ours
Adding ‘You see they look just like me and you ‘

Three girls came by another time
Was it yesterday – or maybe last year
They held my hands and kissed my face
It was good to have them near
I’ve no idea who they could have been
Or why they came to see me
The light was dim but your hand was there
And flooding memories tried again to break fee

Thoughts come to me quite often
Of a life I used to know
I don’t know if they belong to me
Because they never seem to grow
They fade like the sun at the end of the day
But one thing I know that’s for certain
Your hand is always in my hand
My love my guide my inspiration

This is from the heart and I am sure your Mom would love!. From a poetic standpoint, much could be improved upon to make it flow better!. Start with reducing uneeded words and phrases!. A good poem takes much editing to really make it shine!. My heart goes out to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
