Question: Are metaphors always clear to you!?
Metaphorically Speaking

This Spring I walked into a forest
where trees were fleshed in green
in time they became quite familiar
I could call each by their proper name
unique shape and size of leaf
the different ways they grew
my wise oak, the romantic plum
the funny maple spoke
soon their colors did turn
from Nature's own due course
others infected with strange
unknown foliage disease
it's Fall now and in this space
where my friends, the trees
once flourished
leaves have dropped
one by one
full branches now are bare
change of wind carries
fallen debris
their words are bagged and trashed
will be a long, long winter methinks
'till I walk cherished forest again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, the poetry section is not what it was!.

There are too many that believe poetry is a gift-wrapped gem from Tennyson's grave; a mechanical bull used to dull our senses and spasm our robotic brains into believing that, if it's "correct", it must be good!.
Correct can be great and it can also be the worst stain of words you've ever read!. If a poem makes you angry, it's not because you disagree with the subject matter!. It's because you cannot stand the sight of the car it drove up in!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I lay myself to be prone to the metaphors attacks!. Each blow unravels a bit more of itself to me!. After a while, while i lay bloodied, i take in everything discovered by me and take in the true meaning of the metaphor!.

I feel like if i shoot first and ask questions later to the metaphor I'll never truly understand it!.

I find that I most often - take poetry too literally!. I would not have looked - for a metaphor - unless you had mentioned it!. The phrase - "their words are bagged" - was a clue - that either the trees were being personified or another subject (like life in general) was being spoken of ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!.!.and I would not want them to be!. They are one way in which a poet can cummunicate at a subliminal level!. Poetry would be very dull if everything was on the surface all of the time!. The sense that something is going on that I have not yet grasped, but that I will unravel in time, is always intriguing :)
The poem, btw!. is excellent!. And the metaphor very effective and moving :) Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The cycle of Nature is often used for the cycle of our own lives!. Except that Nature does not die--while we do!.

(Don't be afraid to use the definite article 'the' in your work; it is not taboo and the English language often requires it, even in poetry)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Such metaphor could be taken on two levels!. The first is witnessed by all of us throughout life, where we meet people and communicate with them then they are gone along with their words!.The second is the closer ring of Y!A, and the rest is known!.both levels work for me!.
nicely put!Www@QuestionHome@Com
