Question: A pome (sic) about ironing!. What do you think!?
Old Habits Die Hard

Do you ever find that you do something
Because your Mother did it that way
Not thinking about why you do it
Just - that is the state of play!?

Take ironing, for example
Each time when I get to the shirts
I always iron the cuffs and collar
Before tackling the other parts!.

(I've chosen you to tell this to)
A revelation came to me to-day
Some-one switched my light on!
I KNOW why my mum did it that way

Her iron had no electrical parts
It was made of iron and heavy
So it was placed upon the stove
Then picked up with a cloth when ready!.

So, the reason behind the sequence
Was to iron double thicknesses first
And then as the iron began to cool
She moved on to the rest of the shirt!.
!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.o0o!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
The question is!.!.!.now that I know that, will I feel
right starting on the front instead!? (I doubt it)

And, I've just realised why we call it 'ironing'
here in the UK!.

My mom loved me because I was fussy about the creases in my clothes and did all my own ironing from the age of about 14 as she always left tramlines!. By the time I got in the Army I had a headstart on the rest of the guys and scored multo brownie points on parade! Even now, I am the one to iron all the trousers in the house as my wife hates them!. I even do jackets if they get crumpled!.

(And I can sew, cook, draw, repair a bike tyre, change a plug, teach first aid, tie knots, shoot, read a map and wrestle alligators!. Rebellions quelled at a small extra charge!)

Your poem took me back!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pressing matters, these irons pose! Must not present our wrinkles in public you know! It is ironic that certain wrinkles we religiously 'iron' out while others, we hide!

I always ironed collars first, since they did not wrinkle when I did the rest of the shirt!. Never thought about your sequence, which when thought about makes absolute sense!.

Ironing is the one thing I wait until last to go through!.
It's hardly the thing I like spending my day to do!.
I fight with all my shirts and things that really make it tough!.
I hate the pains taking ironing to press out things with ruff!.
But I have an electric iron and whiz-my job gets done!
In no time I am through with that and off to having fun!

When I got to "take ironing, for example" I felt like moving on to another poem!. But, my eyes skimmed past "I doubt it" so I smoothed my wrinkly t-shirt and started over!. Now I know why my ironed shirts have these strange burnt impressions!. Thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is very interesting!. I've always done the cuffs and collar first too, though I can't recall anyone ever teaching me to iron!. Maybe I watched my grandma and picked it up that way!.!.!.

Soaring heat of ironing
make your body stiff!
Then it becomes an irony
Because you, your garb
unite and merge!
It becomes a paradox
If your clothes melt,
and merge with your body!.
