*****
FOLLY THEATRE

Day-glow 70’s colors,
sunrises, palms,
Amazonian,
Pontchartrainian,
worked in well!.

Vibrant flora,
draping moss,
lady faceless,
as Matisse intended,

Masquerading
in verse on paper,
fictionalized,
Mobius strips of syntax!.

Oh my, it serves a purpose only if the reader can ascertain the reference!. In this instance, the surface contrasts the real natural elements with their descriptions 'on paper!.' There is probably something more esoteric in the poet's mind!.,Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is subjective but relative all at the same time, requires both discipline and a wandering mind!. I say if I was able to take something away from it, it has served its purpose!.

This was very tantalizing and thought provoking!. Loved the images and the reference to Matisse!. I pictured one of those paintings, felt myself comfortably faceless wandering through a myriad of colors, maybe a festival or carnival in the seventies with a jazz band playing off to the side!. Thanks once again for the inspiration!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the subject ( importance) and the message (magnitude: positive or negative-), given that proficiency is granted!.
There are a lot of important subjects proficiently done with a negative message, which may induce harm to the society!. Poetry carries the sword of the word, it serves either a positive or negative purpose!. Purposeless poetry may be regarded as any other nonsense!.
P!.S!. You are right!. If was an alcoholic, then the last thing I 'd need is a poem that encourages boozing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe that ;

Art without titles allows for pure "interpretation" or rather forces people to "see" for themselves!.

Titled art seems to guide people to where the "artist" intends!. (and most titles are painfully abstract and distracting!.!.!.!.even psuedo-intellectual)

A few of my artist friends (painters, poets, sculptors) now show only un-titled works for this very 'reason'!.

And, closer to home, here on Y/A much of what is posted pops up in a further distracting "catchy question-form"!.

Maybe we should all simply post with "What do you think of my poem" questions!.!.!. and keep them title-less and comment free!.

Perhaps the authors would then be compelled to concentrate on the quality of their work with hopes that the text alone provokes thoughtful insight in the reader's minds!.

Anyway!.!. this is my 3 minutes of Sunday seriousness!.

Yes, poetry is art!. It is what separates us from animals!. All art is interpretive and as such is judged by the viewer/reader!.!.!.
If it is thought or image provoking, then it serves it's purpose!.
