Position:Home>Poetry> The Spider. What do you think of my poem?

Question: The Spider!. What do you think of my poem!?
Saw a spider hard at work, and thought!.!.!.I could write a poem about this!. So, I did!.

Outside my kitchen window -
Such a patient little fellow,
swinging,
stringing thread from window to shed!.
Determination in his heart,
a steely fixation in his eye,
and the instinct of eons in his soul!.
His goal!?
To build a magnificent structure
of sticky girders!.
Spiralling threads, long and thin,
with a symmetry that comes
from within,
honed over millions of years!.
(Darwin's your man on this)
Carefully
he acrobatically clambers
back and forth along the lines
creating a whorl of webbing
with only one object in mind!.
Food -
Fly food, bee food
moth, butterfly and wasp
daddy-long-legs, dragon-fly
None will escape
his cocooning grasp!.
He pauses in his endeavours
and delicately tests each strand!.
Satisfied!. He retreats to wait
in its darkest corner!.
He's a loner in a hostile land!.

Now, I could upset his apple cart,
sweep his edifice away in a trice!.
But, something in me says
'That's not very nice!.
What did the spider ever do to you!?'
But, I've a dilemma!.
What to do!?
To save the life of the bee and the fly
I must destroy the web,
cause my spider to die!.
I decide instead!.!.!.
To salute his sheer tenacity,
and marvel at his dexterity!.
Close my curtains!.
Turn a blind eye!.
Do you know why!?
Because!.!.
I bet spiders love life
just as much as I!.

(But, then I suppose so do the bee and the fly!)

beauty!.
marvel!.
realized!.
what is certain!.!.!.
to a possible unanswered danger!?
then,
we'll just pull the wool (curtain) over our eyes
and have our reasons!. haha!

(your real reasons are perfect btw)

obviously this is an extreme metaphor to this!.
but i thought id describe some of the ironic i saw!.

i'd surely do the same thing you did GrannyJ!.
i see your enjoyment of life in this really more than anything!.
and you just cant be any more fair to the world than this!.

well written!.Its good you allowed the circle of life to go on without your interference!.To interfere would be to pretend you are God and the fly and bee had no right to there decision to fly into the web and the spider who worked so hard had no right to the fruits of his labor!.Seems like you have a Great deal of depth to you!.Have a great day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What a hard thing - it is - to let the spider have its web!. I like to see the intricacy - and admire its usefulness in catching that occasional housefly!. It is only when someone remarks - "you haven't dusted lately!? You missed the spider web" - that I have been erroneously judged - all for the admiration of the spider ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

GJ this is great! It prompted thoughts of tangled webs and internet, weaving, deception, There was an Old Lady Poem and "Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly" Poem!.

Thanks for the retro visit and the sympathetic and respectful way you have written about spiders!. They get so much bad press don't they!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

Upon this wooden structure
those that live will have to pay
for the mortgage is due
and free boarders are doomed
except when I am really feeling
philanthropic!

A nice pen!. Could it be edited down!? Sure!. But that is your call!. A fun read!. It is interesting to actually see a spider act when the prey is caught!. It doesn't get much more graphic than that!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I loved your poem so much as i too sit and watch my spiders on my porch as they wait and wonder when is the next meal going to fly in my web!.!.Poor little ones who have to hunt to eat' soon as they are born!.!.Your descriptions were RIGHT ON!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I found this very entertaining!
You did the right thing to close the curtains and let nature take it's course!. I'm all for that!.!.!.UNTIL they start building their little high rises in my house!. In here I'm at the top of the food chain! HA!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Loved this! Really did! It does so fascinate me to watch them hard at work like that! I, too, admire their tenacity!. Glad you wrote this poem for us to see!

But don't let Mag see it, he's deathly afraid of them, and probably won't be able to finish it!

This was brilliant!. You can really get tangled up in a" Spider Web"!.
"Bee" careful where you walk!. "Fly" away as fast as you can!. Just my

My Grandfather loved spiders so much he would pay us a penny for 10 dead flies so he could hand feed them!. It was an easy way to get spending money!.!.!.out to the barn with a fly swatter!. 50 flies meant spiders were well fed and a nickle meant a popsicle!

I really like the poem, very descriptive!.

Did you know spiders are one of the first land dwelling critters and their bodies were as big as a man's head, Then add on eight legs legs each about 36 inches long!.!.!.what a nightmare!Www@QuestionHome@Com
