Question: Do you deliberately flaunt the reader's expectations!?
4!.1!.1!. (Cont!.)

Poetry is often associated not only with specialized language but with a very dense use of such specialized language!. Poems usually try to express their meaning in much less space than, say, a novel or even a short story!. Alexander Pope once explained that he preferred to write poetry even when he wrote about philosophy because it enabled him to express himself more briefly (Pope, Preface to An Essay of Man, 1735)!. As a result of its relative brevity, poetry tends to make more concentrated use of formal elements, it displays a tendency for structural, phonological, morphological and syntactic overstructuring, a concept which originated in formalist and stucturalist criticism!. It means that that poetry uses elements such as sound patterns, verse and meter, rhetorical devices, style, stanza form or imagery more frequently than other types of text!. Obviously, not all poems use all these elements and not all verse is poetry, as John Hollander remarks (Hollander 2001: 1)!. Especially modern poets deliberately flaunt reader expectations about poetic language (see the ‘found poem’ in ch!. 1!.2!.)!. Nonetheless, most poetry depends on the aesthetic effects of a formalized use of language!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If we take E!.E!. Commings (Plato Told), for example, we can see almost all the above mentioned criteria of poetry!. I prefer simplicity in wording, in flow, and in sequencing the ideas of the subject, or the elements of the sole idea (in the subject)!. That is what flaunts my expectations!.

Thank you for expanding ever so slightly on what I said in response to your previous question!. Yes, poetry contains some subset of these elements always, and it is the decision of the poet which ones are to be employed, in what way they are to be employed, and for what end!. Even poetry without "conventional" structure -- stanzas, line breaks, etc!. -- uses language in a formalized way!. The enjoyment (for me at least) in writing poetry is that I must simultaneously satisfy several constraints, perform several tasks if you will, all in an engaging way!. If reading poetry results in moments of heightened consciousness, then surely writing does also, indeed more so!.!.!. do you agree!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Roses

Hello friends its roses again,
Roses all the way,
Only will roses ever stay,
Upon your coat button and as flowers
In a vase and ‘ Roses’ as a name for you
And then someone will say,
Roses are red
Violets are blue,
Call a rose by any other name
Still I t’ ll be true!.

Roses will remain the way they are,
Their smell travels very far,
From London to Australia
Or the bottom of the sea,
Where Jack Dawson was said to be born free!.

Had there been no Titanic there would
Have been no’ Rose’,
also no ‘Hello Canada’, to compose,
Yes my friend would have to say
‘’Why do I have to wear clothes’’ today!.

Another of my fans ‘Hassan’ would have no romance,
Without a Rose,’ Hello Canada’, would have no stance!.
Kroshta, or Cleopatra yes, Greek woman,
Any other person, American may be Roman,
Nor Solitaire would have been,
On the internet ever seen!.

For roses sure are red and violets are still blue,
My love for Canada is, as much it is for you!.
Roses will sell the way they usually do!.
Hopefully you all will display
when’ Hello’ does go,
‘’Gone With The Wind’’, He hopes so,
And does every remind,
Sweet memories of roses
He would leave behind!.

‘’ CANADA IS CALLING ME’’

Have your journey from wherever you be,
Come to Canada and for yourself see!.
Be bold it’s the best of summers,
Yes the best of winters too and spring!.
As for autumn there is no comparison,
In the cloudy weather and morning dew,
It will be lovely weather for you!.

There is plenty of water, hot and cold
There is no failure of electricity that’s fore told ,
And there is plenty to eat, drink and be merry,
Enjoy peaches , strawberries, and the best of cherry,

Just as I was about to land,
The welcome I thought will be with a band!.
It was so warm there was no storm,
And the people all around were kind,
Of my youth they all did me remind !.

As I stepped out of the air- port,
The brightness was all sun – shone,
And after another moment it was all gone!.
When I landed there was no cloud,
The Canadians were, ever so proud!.
Suddenly they came from somewhere,
Heaven really knows from where!.
A little more up the highway it began to rain,
I thought it was some passing train!.

When I entered the room for my nights’ stay
There was warmth all the way!.
And then truly I was happy to be in Canada,
After all ‘twas warm and sunny, even in the veranda!.

Do not go out today, you may freeze,
The wind is blowing and really it’s cool breeze!.
If you step out you may feel the chill,
Come to Canada and stay indoors still,
Enjoy ice skating, swimming and dance,
And of course friendly, just friendly, romance!.
