Question: Childish expectations, anticipations, where will it lead !?

Minister Bob chides, decries, our annual festival,
his wife, smiling and encouraging, socks his arm!.
Uptight, upright deacons arrive with their brood,
absolutely nothing will damp down this festive mood!.

October celebration of ghostlies and witchlies,
decorations complete, anticipation soaring!.
Black hatted witch riding worn, gnarled broom,
beady eye monsters flit within wispy foggy gloom !

Witchy witch black cats arching, claws digging, hissing,
shadows of bats, all sorts, swooping blindly in flight!.
Flickering candles, collection of carved pumpkins indeed,
childish expectations, anticipations, where will it lead !?

Hay ride loading, horses stamping, frosty chill,
over quiet fields, ramshackle barn we arrive!.
Ghostly forms billowing high, skeletal trees,
fiendish drooling faces appear, help me please !

Tunneled mazes through stacked hay we dare,
crawling low, warm drops landing from overhead!.
Catsup bloodstains around, goop piled upon the floor,
could you really want to see or feel anything more !?

Overgrown graveyard welcomes with hooded flickering light,
apparitions rising and sliding, wheezy blowing breath escapes!.
Slimy snoot, yellow slitted eyes, wild fuzzy green hair,
children with our imagination stoked, so easy to scare !

Yellow moon rising, owls call, mystery lurks when riding back,
holding hands, eyes darting about this frosty Autumn night!.
Strange creaking’s perceived, still heard, yet naught seen,
thus, the simple, prankish joys of my childhood Halloween!.

It sounds like great fun— strange creaking and overgrown graveyards under the yellow moon!. I remember being out under that same yellow moon in my own childhood, cherished memories of freedom in the night!. What a wonderful poem!. Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're absolutely right about ministers and Halloween!
This is now a child's celebration, and has been for a long time!. Even so, church's have large signs out every year, denouncing Halloween as a satanic ritual to be ignored, and deplored!. WELL!!!
That wasn't even true, back when it started!.!.!.a Druidic Festival!.!.!.Samhain!.!.!.celebration feasting of Fall, ahead of a bleak winter of perhaps not enough food!. Its roots are being pushed back every year by researching folklorists and Anthropologists!. I say let the children enjoy themselves!
And adults read this poem over again!.!.it is delightful!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
