!.!.!.!.as far as affect and irony!.
If the music is good, it can be both sad and even heart-wrenching in it's words, yet uplifting in it's tone!.

Son: "I can't write poetry, this is impossible!"
Father: "Snort! What is this then!?" (waving a piece of paper)
Son: "That's the song I'm writing!.!.!."
Father: smirking with one raised eyebrow "What is a song but poetry set to music!. Read the poems, hear the music!.!.hear the music as you write the poem!."
Son: "Uhh!.!.never thought of it that way!.!."
Father: "That's why I'm the Dad and you're the son!.!.!." (ducks a thrown eraser!.!.)

I hear it in your writing, and though I may use words like 'flow' it is the music of the poetry I hear!. I hear many different styles but yes, I do hear music when I read something that flows for me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the subject!. Pastoral pieces about the land and nature tend to bring to mind Grieg and Debussy or Ralph V Williams Fantasia on Greensleeves!.
War poetry often brings to mind Marillion's Forgotten Sons whilst images from the streets and rain-washed pavements on the downtown side of life bring me Tom Waits' Downtown Trains!.

It really depends on the poem and it's form!. When I read you I would need Muddy Waters heartbeat, then there are times when only Bach will do, and for great romantic poetry Beethoven fits the bill!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can see why you are drawn to this one, he made the song bleed!.
I know a poem is good if it makes my heart sing, but only the tune the poet wants sung!. If there is no connect, we both lose!.
