Question: Can a poem FILLED with cliches still convey meaning!?
Cliches are Such Fun!

It's a flip of the coin
a roll of the dice
to be or not to be
Account Destroyer with
motley crew
come after you
like sharks out of water
ma, Always, Roscoe or Eve
may have to take her leave
bid you adieu
parting is such sweet sorrow
alas, the trumpet sounds!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Eve, Ma, Angel, Roscoe!.!.!.you need to come back and reconnect, just like Buk!. we have to keep a stand by account and come back or those lil bast@rds win!.!.!.!.don't let them win!. Throw a block party for us and come back! We need to stick together or they will tear this site apart!. Don't let them do that!!!!!

Cliches are fun; they aren't serious writing though!. I reviewed a dictionary of cliches on Amazon and part of the review included a short story using only cliches!. That is a cool book, by the way!.

But, I digress, back to your poem!.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying with the cliches!. The one line that throws me is "Account Destroyer with" probably since I've never heard that one, but that may be the point!.

All in all, it is a clever poem!.

In this case, ESPECIALLY helped by the title given it, cliches become the focal or meaningful conveyance instead of the detriment or dependence on mediocre cleverness trying to sound convincing!.
I like it!. I'm glad the title emphasizes its' sense of play with such commonly used language or cliches!.

Hey, you're not going, surely!?

I've got a book called Cliches, by Betty Kirkpatrick in which she says (to paraphrase) - yes, cliches are well worn-phrases but they are a short-hand which enable you to immediately understand another persons views!.!.so they serve a purpose!. However, she goes on to quote W Ward Gilman (Webster's Dictionary of English usage) 1989 - (since what actually constitutes a cliche varies from person to person)!.!.one realistic way of approaching the subject is "simply to call a cliche whatever word expression you have heard or seen often enough to find annoying" (see some of these aren't cliches to me!.!.Account Destroyer!? like sharks out of water!?)
I could write you an essay!.!.!.which might be just what the doctor ordered but it might be like flogging a dead horse!.

what can I say!?
They are always behind!. The invisible force of jealousy and evil!. crooked mind!. Blessers of thumbs down!. Reporters---not of any journal or newspaper!. But Beelzebub's kinsmen!. Unsatisfied Fleas! gluttonous obsession!. mad-trappers!. Yet they are unsatisified!.
but never bid adieu!. parting is such a painful thing!. i have a heart too tender to suffer it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

From a prose a poem may grow!.!.
From a poem we may pick a prose!.!.
Both are expressing thoughts and feelings

If the whole poem could be sliced into cliches, proverbs, and prose then its a fantastic one!. If the vice versa, then its a reference to the poets ability of organization!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sure they can!. Heck even a limerick serves a purpose does it not!.!.!.
Fear of even starring a question because of the same problem simply adds to the frustration level of trying to participate in anything on this site!.
Knowing the owner's of the site don't care!.!. well, nothing priceless about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since cliche's are well known they can convey more meaning than fresh words which may have to be deciphered to get to cryptic messages!.

edit: I got email notification just now, and I answered this 25 minutes ago!.!. Boohoo is back to some of it's old ways!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The bottom line, if you'll permit me to say, never look a gift horse in the mouth!. All cliches contain a grain of truth, like seeds scattered in the wind, tall trees from little acorns grow!. So, gird your loins and join the battle!. Poetry rules!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Take care of yourself if you leave and stay next time!.

I will miss you but nothing is worth grief that sounds like it has been leveled at you by the anonymous snipping of the jealousWww@QuestionHome@Com

There's a reason things become cliche -it's because they are meaningful enough to be worthy of repetition!. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wrote one on this same subject a while back!. Yes, you can have a lot of fun with them as this one proves!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
