Question: Just a little verse - but, I took ages over it!. What do you think!?
Looking for inspiration, I was reading an anthology of poetry (By Heart, 101 Poems to Remember) I read the Eagle, and used this to start me off - though not much else in my poem matches Tennysons!.

Motionless upon cloud-kissed rock,
An eagle,as if carved from a granite block,
Pauses!.
Taking stock!.

The tide-gripped waves
beneath him flow
But of the sea's flamboyant show
He cares not!.
All he cares to know is that
He reigns supreme
in his
mountain kingdom
of the snow!.

______________________________________!.!.!.
The Eagle by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands!.
Ring'd with the azure world, he stands!.

The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls!.
And like a thunderbolt he falls!.

Poets take inspiration from each other!. You have used an idea to write an entirely new poem!. This is NOT an imitation of Tennyson!.

(And I also think green is funnier than blue)!.

I think that any poet who says he (or she) is not influenced by the poems that have come before is deluded, and furthermore has missed a creative opportunity!. I enjoyed this offering (in part because I am a great fan of Tennyson), not least because you have taken your own inspiration from a famous poem and creatively refashioned it in your own voice, in effect have made it your own!. Maybe I'll try to write a Tennyson themed poem, or perhaps Keats!.!.!. now do you see the seeds you've sown!? Nice work, GJ =DWww@QuestionHome@Com

I shall forthwith give my honest opinion here, which is to say that you did very well on this endeavor!. I like it, especially the crooked hand hanging on!. As far as blue background is concerned, he has probably already experienced the blue screen of death, as well as a blue brain from lack of oxygen!. Do as many of this type as you want, I love to read them aloud, they please my mind and my tongue!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When so much power is thrust into such a "little" verse, it is worth taking such agonizing time over it!. I could feel the cool air whipping across my face, hear the shriek that is identified with the majestic bird of prey ripping over the calm, cool horizon!. The updraft beneath the wings created by words!. You soar, Grannyjill!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I honestly like it!.

Particularly because it has a flowing meter, and the rhyme scheme is interesting ( the middle of the second stanza rhymes back with the first giving some continuity -- and the second stanza has a symmetry with internal rhymes)!.

It should not matter where your inspiration comes, only that you are inspired!. I think it is one of your better works and is a vision of a breath-taking occurrence!.

I love poems that give such powerful, vivid images as this! I also tend to steer more towards compact poetry, as the longer ones often lose me!.!.!.

PS!. The word crawl seems to be the only thing related to said category!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only thing missing is the scene with the ice fisherman
pulling the fish from a hole in the ice!.!.
offering it up to the Eagle above
who swooped down and flew away with it!.

I love it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yahoo's choice of category was correct in such that it's a childish waste of time to "spend ages" attempting to mimmick art!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

TD, Loved your answer!. Way more than seven!.
Edit, Good one Dondi, He probably has Blue Balls too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love the poem!. The answers, too!. Did you ever see the film, "The Seven Face of Dr!. Lao" with Tony Randall as all these different circus acts and serpents!?
