Love's Imprint

Angry child squats in amber field
burdened by troubles he wrought upon himself!.
Red, swollen eyes catch a butterfly in flight,
its freedom and lightness sharp contrast
to his own caged existence
unpalatable truth his only key
left for desperate escape!.
He watches wings busily flutter
creating a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors,
beauty too pure and piercing for
broken boy to behold!.
He swiftly snatches royar monarch mid-air
driven to transfer his pain onto another!.
Deliberately each wing he tears and destroys!.
Malicious act, though, yields no desired relief!.
Instead, transferred onto boy's fingers,
a rainbow of radiant residue remains!.
Still angry child furiously wipes hands
on faded jeans!.
Vulnerable thing of beauty leaves
indelible imprint,
its sacrificial last act, unappreciated!.
A truth
wounded child may never comprehend!.
