What message do you get from this poem?

Question: What message do you get from this poem!?

With toes
curled against the edge,
I stand poised twenty feet high!.
My heart
pounds;
My breath
races!.
I raise my arms
inhaling deeply;
relaxing!.
Still I am afraid,
not of the fall,
but of what’s after!.
Arms above my head,
I ponder:
What if I dive too deep
And loose myself!?
What if I stay too shallow,
out of fear,
and it all turns out superficial!?
I step back,
step forward
and
decide
to
take
the
plunge!.

Gosh at first I thought diving, then the more I read, I thought love or anything new and exciting, like someones dream person, or dream job coming true!.

I Like it alot, seems to be about stepping off a building, and not being afraid of falling but of death!. Then wondering what happens when you die, if you will cease to exist or if you will realize that the world you lived in was not the whole picture!. I got the message instantly, try to perfect your word choice, see if there are words that'll say exactly what you mean to say, the vocab is not as good as it could be!.

That's what I got, then I read it to someone else and they said it is about Diving, which makes much more sense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Great poem, it builds up tension beautifully!. While on one level it can be taken literally as about diving into water, on other levels it can work as a metaphor for a leap into life itself, or a leap of faith, etc!.!.

i think it talks about a bungee jump!. If that person decides to jump, the cord might break and he would fall to him death, and if that person decides not to jump, he would have that fear forever and the embarrassment of not going through with it!. but then what the heck, he/she decides to jump anywayWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think its a case of art imitating life and I think its a situation we all find ourselves in whether in your personal or career endeavors taking that plunge always comes with some kind of doubt no matter how great or small, love how you said its not the plunge but what comes after that you/we really fear, I think that shows an evolved train of thought and level of consciousness!. I think its beautifully written and a great expression of the leap of faith, I love the ambiguous ending makes want a sequel to the poem cause now we wonder what it is and if you jumping worked out!. but its great ARt man, I can relate and that's usually all that matters, but whats it called!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I thought the poem was about someone jumping off a building, taking a chance maybe even suicide!.
About line 3 or 4!.
I do not like how you broke up the last seven lines maybe something different like:

_______________forward

_____________________u
______________________n
_______________________g
________________________e!.

(The "_" are there because yahoo won't let me put spaces)

Something like that!. Other then that I think it's pretty good!. Just work on positioning the words in the right place to make a better statement!.

WOW! that is very deep! that is a great poem and i felt that you have to take sacrifices and risks in order to get through life and some of them are very scary and makes you have second thoughts! that only took me a minute or two! that is what i get out of it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Second line I got it but there's something deeper than jumping off a cliff or building!.

It could mean deciding to take the plunge and get married or tell that special someone how you feel!.
