A Sad Song For My Mother

I see you today in great demise
Hungry, and tired, and battered
I reach out, and cradled your hands in mine
And felt it quivering
These old hands had nurtured me
And made me what I am today
In your legacy, I acquired wisdom
In your history, I found pride
And I love you, with all my heart
!.!.!.and with all my soul

Now women are calling you a thief
And men regard you as a whore
I looked at your weary eyes
And spoke to them in silence
For I cannot do much
To free you from your misery
So after each selfishly spent day
I come home to you
And hold you in my arms
And sing you my love songs
In all tongues that I could muster
Longing for my brothers to hear the melody
And wake them up from deep slumber
!.!.!.in ignorance, in insolence, in apathy

In a faint, faint voice
I'll tirelessly ask for your forgiveness
For I am too weak to redeem you
!.!.and can do nothing,

But to share your pains
And mourn
