Question: Anyone want to comment on my poem, ECT!? It's about Assia Weevil (Hughes' mistress and then wife after Plath!?
ECT

They say he moved you into the marital bed
Of his previous, more damaged lover,
The mother of his children,
2 days after her death!.

The house still smelling of gas
Paint peeling off around the doorframe,
Yet another reminder, as if she’d let you forget,
Of tape sealing the door shut to protect sleeping babes!.

Did he ever forget!? And trace his fingertips,
Over your temples, where her hair grew like down,
Whirled into the indentations, where a lifetime ago
Attempts were made to shock demons into submission!.

Did rabbits hang dead around the door!?
Killed by your lover, a man who entered the bed,
Smelling of the blood of many a broken woman
Your butcher lover, who chose weakness to empower himself!.

You never could compete, with a ghost
A woman who always knew,
That with him - no good would ever come of you…
Assia you were fated before you even began!.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
This is excellent - the opening line grabs you and drags you into the controversy!. The second verse is wonderful, calling our attention to fine details and saying such a lot about Plath!.!.!.!.and so on!. Very interesting (especially as I know very little about Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath save her depression and being weighed down by children!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like the poem and it's ricness of texture, the atmoshpere created of the bedroom smelling of gas and peeling paint from the tapes!. I am not so sure of the implied guilt od hughes as a murderer, though!. I have never agreed with trial by media and this is what Hughes was subjected to, guilty or innocent!.

A fine poem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Assia reminds me of Steely Dan the song that is!. I do hope that this a fiction and not something that happened to you!. It is exquisite and do keep keeping on!. PhilipWww@QuestionHome@Com
