Question: How do you write a sonnet!?

Decide which "kind" of sonnet you're going to write (Shakespearean or Petrarchan), pick a topic, lay out your rhyme scheme and watch your beats!. You can google "sonnet form" to get the rules on rhyme pattern, but what it won't tell you is that the "good" sonnets have rhymes that flow so naturally that they almost sound accidental!. Don't use cliche phrases and watch your beats and meter!.!.!.if you're doing Shakespearean sonnets, make sure it's iambic pentameter!. If you're not sure what that "is", look it up as well!.!.!.then start writing!. Remember, the last two lines will be a couplet and should provide the turn or punchline!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As a poetic form, a sonnet is but a mould into which your argument is cast!. Try first to put your inspiration into discursive prose, fine tune it away from clichés and explicit poetic echos, and then cast it into whatever sonnet type suits the moment!.
