Question: Is it too late for me to post my poem so that my contacts may review and comment on its virtues and faults!?

YOU CAN’T ALWAYS WANT
WHAT YOU GET

Rich and yellow, gilded
golden in a furnace purified,
and filigree of butterflies,
mechanized, with wings that feign
to fly…

You and I, fortified
inside a mind, tearless cries,
petrified, depth of amber,
immobilized, with hearts of stone
so dry…

Rain and days, come
with wanting eyes,
and rippled skin,
tantalize, then moans another
saddened sigh…do you and I!.

To me, the beauty of it is in the fact that it is abstract enough that the reader can fill in the blanks on their own, based on where they're "at" at the moment!.

I see a man, drinking, staring at a plug in heater, with the coils sparking to look like butterflies (or fireflies) that won't fly, who is finding his solace in a bottle, petrified that the bottle will be empty before he finds it, and though his wanting eyes look for the new, tantalizing day, he and his bottle moan together to greet it!.

Again, probably totally off, but the beauty of poetry is to take someone somewhere with your words, no!? I went on that journey!.!.!.maybe not the journey you intended, but I don't want my money back!

No, it's not too late and here are my comments:

The virtues are in the imagery, the rhythms and the internal rhymes!. These lead one into another and sustain the esthetic thread!. They are quite pleasing in just the sequence they are in!.

The fault is that the images and rhymes have hijacked the meaning, leaving it unfocused!. This is not a terrible fault but the whole could be better with a stronger, more focused progression of meaning!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is obviously a poem about a disappointment of some sort, although the reference remains hidden in the mind of the poet!.

There are some images which give clues: gilded, mechanized, feign, petrified, immobilized, hearts of stone and saddened!. This does portray a spirit in pain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This stirs up all sorts of feelings and images but danged if I can find the thread in there TD!. Maybe I'm a tad unravelled myself this morning at 8!.30, been working for two hours without tea!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

True, but sometimes you get what you need!.!.!.
I'm still pondering the fuller meaning here!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You and yours reaching for the golden ring yet once again falling!. I go now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

But if you cry sometimes!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
