Literary devices and rhythm patters set the poets apart from the prose authors and presents a style that, when done well, conveys a clear meaning in far fewer words!.

For sure, poetry can be penned without regard to devices and rhythm, it quite often is; then it feels and reads more like a dairy entry or thoughts expressed jumbled and tumbled as they often are when first acknowledged in our minds!.

Brevity with concise expression is the hallmark of a really good poet!.

The second part of the question is not as simple to explain,,, perhaps I could best sum it up this way with an example from one of my poems!.

If you understand the concepts of how a poem is constructed, then you understand that you are not seeing all the details the poet saw when they wrote the verse!. Your imagination comes into play with a poem, as you, the reader, are left to fluff out the details offered within the poem to suit your experiences!.

Here is a small bit of verse with two words per line that capture the essence of what I had experienced at the beach, however, I want you as the reader to relate with what I am describing, not merely absorb every detail I could have offered!.

Sun blazed
colors paled
Tanned bodies
skittle suits

Warm sands
time chills
Memory flickers
darkness calls

Night illuminated
lighthouse winked
Visual reminder
footsteps past

This may not be the best example, but it is what I have available!.

Hopefully this long winded reply helps!.
