Question: Would you like to hear about "Where the Ice Grows Thin"!?
He must have heard the muffled crack
That echoed just beneath his feet,
And known the cold abyss and hack
Of icy knives on gristled meat!.
He must have sensed the hour had come
To cross the waters in the West;
He must have known it's borne by some
To understand before the rest!.
He must have let his fire die out
His chimney stood so cold and gray
With embers tiered as though a doubt
Arranged them when it came to stay!.
He must have known how thin the ice
Would grow here at the hint of Spring --
Poised like a ponderous opening vise
To press a silver tangled wing!.
He must have thought of all he'd lost,
How those few fated to remain
Upon this island tempest-tossed
Might wonder now what earthly stain
Compelled a soul to pass this way --
'Tis but a bitter triumph won
By dust and ashes swept away
In shadow, 'neath a dying sun!.
And so he turned for shore, to live --
To squander precious gold is sin,
But then the world would crack and give
No quarter, where the ice grew thin!.

This is not just some quickly scribbled verse, but a well thought out, well constructed piece of poetry!. There is no doubt in my mind that this work which you have penned would be acceptable to all who read it!.!. You knew that it would be, for I saw the satisfaction on your face at having written something which was the very best you could offer!.
You knew it just as we who have read it knew that it will be some time before you will be inspired to write such a poem again!.
A poem such as this only comes but rarely in a poets lifetime, and though you will come close "This will be your finest hour"!.

With deep respect

Love is the greatest feeling,
Love is like a play,
Love is what I feel for you,
Each and every day,
Love is like a smile,
Love is like a song,
Love is a great emotion,
That keeps us going strong,
I love you with my heart,
My body and my soul,
I love the way I keep loving,
Like a love I can't control,
So remember when your eyes meet mine,
I love you with all my heart,
And I have poured my entire soul into you,
Right from the very start!.

What can I say!? I am speechless (which if you knew me well, you would know is a rare phenomenon)!.!.!.this is fabulous!.

You have such a tale to tell, but you keep back enough to make everyone's mind spiral off in an attempt to fathom the whole story!.
Beautifully crafted, no strained rhymes, no forced rhythms!.!.!.and the piece de la resistance is that quietly understated "No quarter, where the ice grew thin"

That is simply amazing!. Longfellow himself could not have done it better!. I enjoyed this reading as did my spouse (I tend to read poetry aloud, it sounds different)!. I await your next offering with great anticipation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow! I love it! You delivered the message beautifully!Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is beautiful, Jane!. You had me spellbound throughout the entire poem!. What a wonderful work of poetic art!. Truly melodic!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, you certainly paint a picture, and it is a disturbing one!. The anguish of a man at life's extremity is portrayed here!. There is a note of somber reflection and double meaning at many turns that made me pause and re-read with different inflection and find new meanings at many turns!. The flow of the poem, its sheer lyricism, is just wonderful!. You have a music all your own, something I admire so much !.!.!. few here, or anywhere for that matter, have so deft a touch when it comes to such matters!. You are to be commended -- nay envied -- for your gifts!. Keep writing dear lady, you make beautiful music!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
