I do not know the technicalities or rulings of what makes a good poem, nor do I have a formal education in poetry standards, and I don't care, because to me that doesn't matter when writing a poem!. People are too concerned with the "rules" of things and how they think it should be and using comparisons against others rather than just reading and finding the impact the poem has on them!. When I judge a poem I do so based on how it makes me feel, and based on the emotions, thoughts, and memories it brings to me!. I don't care how it is perceived by others or who wrote it, I just want to read something pure and striking!. I can tell you that Jim Morrison is my favorite poet because of these reasons!. I find the poems to have an impact on me, and are inspirational, which is the main reason that I read poetry!. Every poem written by him (some more than others) has affected me in some way (gave me a different way of thinking, brought up a past memory, etc) The poems are different and genuine, not seeming to be something else or copy another!. Each and every poem is thought provoking, as well as emotion bringing as well, something I want in reading a poem!.
I think that the poems are often discredited because of Jim's "celebrity" status!. It would be unfair and stupid to blindly like them because of who he is, as it would be to say they are of no worth!.
This is coming from an "average" person!. I am not pretending to be an intellectual by speaking about poetry, I am merely speaking about life, as the poems do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a few years younger than Jim Morrison!. I actually met his father once, after Jim had died!. Admiral Morrison was Commander, Naval Forces Marianas Islands!.

As far as Jim's poetry, I think it is similar in message to his contemporaries, yet lacks the polish of a master poet, but I was a little kid in the 1960's!. My least favorite memory of 1968 is Jim Clark being killed in a Lotus at Hockkenheimring!.

My least favorite memory in 2008 is the fact that the poets never got the Pop recognition that the singers did!. Jim Morrison's poetry is popular because Jim was popular!. In a few weeks, I'm publishing a book which is a collection of poetry by a man from Biloxi Mississippi, Dr!. Glenn Robert Swetman!. If poetry was cool, he would be Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney AND Jim Morrison!.

Morrison's poetry is vague, apathetic, and full of emotional loose stools!. It could have been written by almost any obsessional narcissist at any time in the twentieth century (one unmistakable mark of great poetry is that it has an indelible personality)!.

The 1960s and early 1970s were probably the richest and most varied period for English lyric writing since the days of Dowland, Vautour and Campion!. There were dozens of master lyricists - all unmistakably themselves!.

But there is always a market for the bogus which can pass for real (though the market tends not to last)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
