HOME ON MONTANA AVENUE
Out front on the grey steps
Two boys sit in blue pin striped
Double breasted suits and
Grey Homburg hats with
High starched collar shirts
Hand painted silk ties
Incongruous
On ones so young!.
My brother grandfather
Would take fishing
Off Montrose Harbor
Where I remember
Them catching striped bass
But I would toddle along
Behind him to the
Cook County Public Library,
They'd bring home hot tamales
From the street vendor
On their way with pickled chili
Green peppers in a jar
That burned my tongue
When I ate every one
Grandmother found me
Wandering in and out
Of the pantry where
The quart of Wild Turkey
Was kept now nearly empty
And put me straight to bed
