Question: A new poem about Peanut Butter!?
Peanut Butter, Grape Jelly, and Milk
Written by Semper Fi Reborn

Peanut butter and grape jelly
My time machine
Every bite sparks a new memory
Of a childhood so long ago
The years were the 70s
The summers were longer
Than a Stevie Wonder record
Like him
We were superstitious
Not stepping on cracks
For the sake of poor mama's back

We watched the girls jump rope
Singing Miss Lucy had a baby
His name was Tiny Tim
We'd play tops
Or ride bikes as fast as we could
Cause Mr Knievel did it
Michael Jackson was a kid like me
On Soul Train singing about ABCs
Everybody wanted to wear an afro
And bell bottomed pants
Can you dig it!?
I knew you could

There I was
On the corners of 7th Street
And South Orange Avenue
In a four story brick building
Numbered 275
Apt!. # 2
First floor left side
Watching Soul Train with my siblings
Eating peanut butter and grape jelly
Washing it down with cold milk
Somehow
That made me forget I was poor
Today it let's me know
How rich I was

All my memories of youth are different, but this poem still conveys the essential elements of innocence, joy and pleasure in simple things that childhood brings!.

Your poem sparks memories of my grandmother's home, playing until exhausted, denim shorts and striped T-shirts, hot afternoons and lying in the shade and my favorite - reading books and eating penny candy!.

I had a very rough, painful childhood, but even I have a few treasured memories of untainted innocence!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I lived out in the country, my grandmother always sent us in August, to pick wild Concord grapes to make jelly and juice for the winter!. I never knew how lucky I was till I tasted the store bought stuff!.!.!.Thanks for bringing that memory back!Www@QuestionHome@Com
