Question: What are your best memories!?
Grandma’s House, The Pine Grove
Inspired by Reenie and Granny Jill
by C!.S!. Scotkin

I remember…
A magic carpet,
interwoven brown needles
generations, fallen pine needles
soft and yielding to sneakered feet!.

Warm summer days,
she makes picnic for one!. Feast!
peanut butter sandwich, orange Kool Aid!.
a book, a worn canvas bag!.
“bring back some pine cones!.”

Walk into my queendom,
giant northern pines block Sol’s rays,
dark cool quiet, space between
columns supporting whispery roof!.
What tree will enthrone me!?

Climb these pines! Easy, spiraling
limbs to canopy, find a cradle branch!.
Feel breezes, eat in heaven, drink eternity!.
Book, forgotten!. Read intertwined
runes of branches, feel rough bark
oozing amber tears!.

Descend from reality
pick up pine cones,
leave in peace!.

Very enjoyable to read!. Fourth stanza, great imagery!. Probably me but the second stanza did not have the feel, meter wise, of the rest!. Overall though, very nice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A warm spring morning spent with my best friend when I was 5!. Her name was Ann Sedlak and she had grey hair!. Let's make May Baskets, she said!. Ann and I made small bunches of flowers to take to all her "old" friends who couldn't drive!. My best friend wore a sunbonnet when she worked in her garden and she had time to spend with a small and chatty brat who ran loose like a stray puppy!. My friend Ann gave me at least a few happy, sparkly moments to remember!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My memories of Summer:
To me I have some memories
of this season!. Going on picnics
for one, family and friends gather
Going swimming
Going to camp each weekend
playing at the playground at the camp site
The visiting of the relatives
grandparents aunts and uncles!.
Playing on the farm
getting into mischief
By the time school started again
There was lots to write about
The teacher would have us write about our summer!.

On the 4th of July, 1979, I was sailing around the Indian Ocean on the USS Badger (FF-1071)!. After sunset, I went down to the galley and brought a can of garbage to the fantail (that's the back of the boat, for you land lovers)!. Everyone was curious about my plan!. I started scooping large buckets full into the water!. A few seconds later, the flying fish went nuts, then the tuna went after them!. In that part of the world, there is a high phosphorous content on the top of the water!. The fish splashes all turn bright green!. For about an hour, we had a fireworks display, albeit monochromatic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Tears drowning inside
of me,
Going places I
could not see!.

Waking up filled with Dread,
not Knowing where,
I laid my Head!.

The Night before,

Where from!.

Are you sure you don`t live in Canada!.The poem is absolutely making us use all our senses!.I loved it!.Just this past week-end I took my students to a pine forest!.I know they did not get out of it what you did!.
We brought back cones and I told them come Christmas we will paint them gold and use them in arrangements!.They weren`t too impressed!.
Oh well, the day brought back some great memories for me!.Your poem brought back even more!.ThanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

This is a lovely poem!. I have lived in only two environments; the big city and on the water!. There were never any forests!. I was a mature woman before I saw forests in Central America and Puerto Rico!. I was stunned at the foliage and the life hiding in the trees and on the ground!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh my goodness! Were we neighbors!? This took me straight to the cottage!
I absolutely adore the first stanza!.!.!.So VERY real to me!. (Except the VERY first thing I do (did) is take my shoes and socks off!
I think there are going to be a few of these from me!.
Thank you for sharing that lovely memory!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really liked your images, it was a well painted piece of poetry that seems to go in hand with something I only wrote yesterday!.!.!. oh to be young!.

What a lovely feeling you induced to me by this poem!. I really enjoyed it!. You took me to my own best memories!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Feel breezes, eat in Heaven, and drink Eternity!. WOW!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

C!.S!., such beautiful phrasing, especially "eat in heaven, drink eternity" and "runes of branches," the former because it evokes our sense, when young, that we have escaped to a magic land, and the latter because it leaves uncertain what is more rune-like, the cocoon of branches that form a protective dreamworld or the symbols on the pages of the book, which are clearly for you a divinatory axis!. This is just wonderful, and except for my acrophobia the thought of replicating the experience appeals to me still!. If only those "oozing amber tears" could encase us and protect us in such places so that we would never have to leave!.!.!.maybe that's why we have memories!. Great poem Cynthia! Do You Remember by Jack Johnson -

Do you remember when we first met!? I sure do
It was some time in early September
Though you were lazy about it, you made me wait around
I was so crazy about you, I didn't mind

So I was late for class, I locked my bike to yours
It wasn't hard to find, you'd painted flowers on
Guess that I was afraid that if you rolled away
You might not roll back my direction real soon

Well, I was crazy about you then and now
The craziest thing of all, over ten years have gone by
And you're still mine, we're locked in time
Let's rewind

Do you remember when we first moved in together!?
The piano took up the living room
You played me boogie-woogie I played you love songs
You'd say we're playing house now you still say we are

We built our getaway up in a tree we found
We felt so far away though we were still in town
Now I remember watching that old tree burn down
I took a picture that I don't like to look at

Well all these times they come and go
And alone don't seem so long
Over ten years have gone by
We can't rewind, we're locked in time
But you're still mine
Do you remember!?"Www@QuestionHome@Com
