Question: Who agrees with my pome about the English language!?
For Dondi

Comprehension

He wrote, if you need help give me a call
though I know you won't understand at all
I'm pure Deep South, it's the way I talk
and you're up there in New York!.

I wrote, that's not the way I talk
up here, we always say New Yawk
it rhymes with balk and chalk and caulk
and you're down there in the South!.

The English language is so much fun,
somehow we communicate with everyone
you get it, no matter how it's done
and you're out there in the World!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Great pome - anything written about the English language and I'm a pushover!.

Did you see Foggisan's offering!?!.!.!.he rhymed Bible with Liable, etc!.is he from the Deep South, too!?

Of course, we British grew up watching American films so we don't have too much trouble with your accents or idioms!.!.!.!.but, I think you might find it hard dealing with Liverpudlians or Glaswegians (well, I certainly do)

Edit - I got a knuckle-rapping for having too many syllables in a poem on A!Y because I pronounced a word strawb'ry and the reader read it as strawberry!.!.!.see it matters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Reminds me of a time I visited the South - the state of Louisiana!. Being from the west coast - we pronounced it loo-ee-zee-an-uh ( like the dictionary)!. When I got there - they pronounced it - loo-zee-an-uh - just a tad short!. It was great fun being there - and I went home to California - with a southern accent ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I work in Brooklyn!. But it's SOUTH Brooklyn, so we say youse all!.

If you see da Buddha
tell him there's no one cuter
Make sure that rhymes, it'll kill him!.

If he sez "I'm from the South"
just say "Well shut ma mowf!"
But say it with some rhythm!.

And if you don't like his answers
Call the guy from Kansas
He'll never know what hit him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think light verse is something one doesn't really see as much of on the internet as one would like to!. An inconsequential piece neatly done - as this is - may be a slight pleasure, but it is a pleasure!.

A good lightweight piece is always better than a poor heavyweight one - and one gets just so many of the latter!.

I enjoyed this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a Deep South gal myself, so if you ever need a translator, give me a call!. I happen to love the northern accents though!.!.!.they make me smile, and then attempt to emulate!. But English is a masterfully funny language!.
