Question: Can anyone explain the meaning of this poem:
THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BY MY BOYFRIENDS BROTHER:

Mr!. Rodney D!. Jack

They erected a chainlink fence around
Peachtree Mortgage & Loan,
the building I once climbed
by way of a drainpipe and a tree-of-heaven
to the hot tar top, closer to a box maple's
topmost bejeweled branches -- laden with samaras!.

Stomping through a plush rug
of creeper and fallen sourwood flowers, I know
that I'm alive -- as Darwin described it:
greedily hungry, fit to survive --
not the least bit concerned with fences!.

I scale the chainlink, then the building,
sit on the roof dreaming
of my future house: vaulted ceilings,
walls!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a poem can hold many meanings, and different people will interpret the same words in a different way

the meanings i get from this is

first interpretation!.!.!.

childhood innocence, the reckless joy of experience the forbidden, the thrill of rebellion, and freedom of a future to dream on free of the restrictions

second interpretation

society, circumstance, poverty restricting a person from achieving a goal
the struggle, drive and determination to overcome the restrictions imposed to achieve the goal
only to after all that effort have the goal remain unachievable, just a dream upon which they can only ponder

but that just my interpretation

The chain-link fence and the business it surrounds are what the author is reacting to, he obliterates it by treating it as part of the environment!. The trees and plants are far more important to him, he is fully alive in that context!. His future house with vaulted ceilings is probably a forest!. He sees himself as an evolving survivalist against the corporate structure with its fences and hot tar roofs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it has a really peaceful tone to it!. the building is like his place of refelecion!. the building he speaks of!. and the fence is like, his new obstacle in his future!. Its ironic that he sits on the roof of a mortgage and loan company, thinking about his future house, or mortgage!. and yet he obviously doesnt have it, and once again, the fence is like symbolic of something that holds him back!. this is really good poem!. VERY good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1st verse :
It kind of sounds like the description of how a buildings surrounding is like with perfect visionary!.

2nd verse :
Outside of the building and is trying to runaway or keep away from someone or something!.

3rd verse :
He/She is on the roof thinking about his/her future house he/she plans to live in!.

All the verses sum up to him/her trying to find a dream home not knowing how to do it!. [Struggling]Www@QuestionHome@Com
