The bees you see gathering pollen, sucking at the blossoms!.

They're "expendables!." They're old bees, near the end of their lives, so they must forage--it's a sensible arrangement, and it would be easy enough to write the 'Darwinian history' of this apian behavior to explain it!. (The young bees have other duties--but I don't spend a lot of time in the hive myself, so I can't comment on young bees)!.

I'm quite tender-hearted toward these slow-moving, often beat-up looking solitaries, working diligently alone, far from the hive and home!. Often they die in my hand, too weak to move by wing, and too far away from hive and home to crawl to death in better company than mine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
