Question: Is this a good description of writer's block!?
Emptiness,
EMPTINESS, I shout!
not absence of substance but
lack of words to bring it to light
yearning for the burst of explosion to
stop this lion from pacing
angrily within its cage
pacing, pacing, wanting escape
the bars unyielding to its form
emotions, visions, wantings boiling
in the caldron of my mind they simmer
teasing, tempting, spewing together
in a jumble of emptiness
Emptiness
EMPTINESS, I curse
and pace
and wait!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

!.!.!.I like what elyslund wrote!.!.!.I have never experienced writer's block with poetry, only dry spells while waiting for inspiration!.!.!.I think the two are entirely different

!.!.!.the "pacing", as if a lion in a cage, is such a wonderful metaphoric way of comparison!.!.!.yet, even a caged lion still has the drive within him or the pacing would not be there!.!.!.so, in the rattling of the bars, there is freedom!.!.!.freedom of expression!.!.!.in the lions case, this is protesting captivity!.!.!.

Kudos, again, my friend!.!.!.

I think it is tough to write a poem where you offer the reader a promise of no action!. If you're going to describe something that has no movement--i!.e!. writer's block, then a shorter piece may be in order!.

That said, I think you could trim this down to a line or two that really takes dead aim at the subject!. I just cut this down to a few images, but this is what I'm trying to express:

"lack of words brings to light a jumble of cages!."

also, drop a lot of those prepositions!. They really slow you down!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It sounds like a good description of a severe case of writer's block!. Having said that, I probably have not attempted much in the way of "creative writing" since my school days!. I do have occasional bouts of "asker's block" when trying to think of good questions to ask on here, though!.!.!.!.and I suppose asking questions on here is a form of creative writing!. I think I may be going through one of those periods right now where I am lacking in inspiration!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Excellently described!
For some reason, I've never gone through 'writers' block'!. I've had empty days, hours, weeks, but writing poetry had nothing to do with those!.

Try voiding your mind of everything remotely creative!.!.!.then take an eyesight tour of the things around you!.!.!.something's going to jump at you when you least expect it!.!.!.write it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd say so, except for the pacing, and E had the answer, don't
fight it, let it go!. It will find you, and it appears that it did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
