Question: Can an island have moods!?
My Island this Night
by Elaine P

My island is in a mood tonight
(or is it today, at 3 A!.M!?),
the air is a web holding
countless droplets of mist,
Ocean is unmoving,
boats lie motionless
at their docks!.

Luna hides behind the clouds,
Sol may not rise today!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The mood can very much be felt from your words Elaine!.!.!.
like Wordsworth describing the morning in his Sonnet upon Westminster Bridge,
"Dear God, the very houses seem asleep
And all that mighty heart is lying still"

The countless droplets of mist and the ocean unmoving!.!.!.
the description is really beautiful!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hello Elaine,

This one has a very evocative sequence:

the air is a web holding
countless droplets of mist,
Ocean is unmoving,
boats lie motionless
at their docks!.

Fine original images and language!. I love how it feels like the world (or the emotional mood if you will) is holding its breath!.

Great ending!.

My only possible suggestion is you may be able to cut "of mist" without losing anything though in no way is it a distraction--in many ways I have a minimalist bent so I may just think that way!. The best part of this poem though is the mood that it shares with the reader!. You've distilled the emotion from the scene!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love your poem Elaine!. Yes, an Island can have moods synbolic of everything else in life!. As seasons change so does the world!. Whatever you vision your island to be you have already set the mood!. I understand your poem to be in a mood of tranquility and peace!. Hmmm!.!.!.great poem!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like it!. I have lived on many islands!. My favorite was Ford Island, right in the middle of Pearl Harbor!. At the time, it was the smallest body of land in the world with a golf course on it!. We just walked around the barracks and were on the first tee!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

An apt description of an island's mood!. Yes, an island can have a mood and effect ours simultaneously!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This has a real "I'm the last person on the island" feel to it!. I found myself holding my breath so as not to disturb the mist!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
