JUSTICE PREVAILS

As they read the verdict,
I squeezed Momma’s hand so hard
that she screamed!. Elrod was
getting lethal injection
for what he had done to my sister,
but still, that was not enough!.

I let go of Momma
and looked around for something
that I could throw or stab
him with!. I wanted the blood
back!. I wanted to take
the law into my own hands!.

Deputy Claggert walked by,
and, for a moment, I lost my mind!.
Before anyone knew it, I had his
Model 19 Smith & Wesson in my hands!.

Everybody hit the floor!. I turned the gun
on Elrod!. My hand trembling, I shouted
“Guilty as charged!”

I squeezed for a moment, but I could
pull the trigger!. I turned to his mother
and his sister!. I pointed the gun at them!.
The tremor in my hands become convulsions!.

I turned the gun on me and screamed
an ungodly sound!. I looked around!.
The fear that I saw was not what I wanted!.
Blunted, I fell to the ground!.
