If I remember correctly, Sassoon was a big anti-war poet during World War I!.!.!.
This poem is written for soldiers, and it's dripping with sarcasm!.!.!. He's saying it DOES matter if these things happen to you- it doesn't matter to the people they don't happen to- they just think "Oh, he's come back a hero!." But they don't really care that your life is ruined!.!.!. He's saying "What good is being a hero when you lose everything!?"Www@QuestionHome@Com
