Position:Home>Poetry> Do you get annoyed...?

Question: Do you get annoyed!.!.!.!?
Do you get annoyed when people tell you that poetry doesn't have to rhyme!? Do they really think that rhymed poems are on accident and that we think rhyme is the only poetic device available to us!? Personally, I write rhymed, non-rhymed, structured, and free form!. My poems rhyme when I want them to rhyme so it is my opinion that it is completely unnecessary for someone to point out that poems don't need to rhyme!. What's your take!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Basically, the rule is: if you post a rhymed poem, 50% of answerers will tell you that poetry does not have to rhyme; if you post a non-rhymed poem, 50% of answerers will tell you that poetry has to rhyme!.

It is mathematical!.

i think for someone like you i totally agree, However, new poets sometimes force a rhyme and spoil a good poem!. perhaps because they were taught poems had to rhyme!.
It still makes me smile when "newbies" tell TD that his poetry shows promise, i guess the bottom line is know who your talking to first before you open your mouth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most of the time
I like a rhyme
But it ain't that all significant!.
And every now and again
I struggle and rack my brain
But don't come up with anything magnificent
And that's okay cause I've got meter, and I've got rhythm
Alliteration, adumbration, imagination, syncopation
Big words, tall words, very very short words
I can do everything I want to with 'em!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes I do!. I'm terrible at rhyming and if you ever see one of my poems with rhyme it is purely by accident or else by challenge!.!.!.If it's the latter you can rest assured I'm short a few handfuls of hair!
Freedom of speech and pen, I say!!

Poems & prose don't have to rhyme , well not at least all the time!. If they did they could become boring, read a few lines and you'd soon be snoring!. As time rolls on my thoughts are clear , to h**l with poetry I'm going for a beer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I hear both!. Poetry doesn't have to rhyme, when I rhyme!. And when I don't rhyme, the comment is to put some rhyme in my poem!. I just pass over their remark!. Their knowledge is lacking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No that does not annoy me, unimportant!. As been said
uninformed!. What more then annoys me, is people with
intent, that ramble on to tear not only the poem apart, but the
person as well, That is sick to say the least!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
