Are a lot of the "writers " just as delusional or misguided as contestants on American idol ,are people just too kind when asked to critique the poemsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I agree!. Most of the so-called poems we read on this site are utter rubbish - in subject matter, construction and use of the language!.
Personally, I think that poems should both rhyme and scan!. If they don't, they are just manipulated prose!.
I don't put my work on the site but do write a lot of verse!. Generally speaking, mine are written to make people laugh!. You can't have a better reason for writing than that !Www@QuestionHome@Com

Generally speaking, I think that very few are "any good" -- most of them, I think, are written by 12-15 year old girls trying a bit too hard (no offense to them intended, it is what it is)!.

I also think that "delusional" and "misguided" are a bit harsh!. Some of these could eventually develop into something quite good, given time and the proper sort of encouragement; not, as you imply, people being nice just to get Best Answer!. Some of the responders on here are brutal, and probably would have told Dickinson to "stop with the hyphens already!"

also, one man's trash is another man's treasure!. I write poetry as well, have actually released a book of it, and in no way do I expect everyone to see it as brilliant!. I published partly because I saw what was available (bookstores, poetry readings, slams, etc!.) and honestly thought (and still do) that my poetry was/is better than much of it!. I'm sure that nobody would like all of it, and some would probably call some of it garbage!. You can't please all of the people all of the time!.

I had a poetry professor in college who is locally well-known!. I can't figure out why myself!. Can't stand his work!. To me, the only thing he ever did right was admit that he couldn't teach people how to write poetry, but only coach them!.

well I'm not 12 or 15 (happen to be 17 so there! =P)so I guess I got the poetry thing down pretty good lol=)!.
But then again for a year or so I worked on my poetry with a published writer(he wrote tuns of stories and was a teacher in creative writing) so I guess I have a head start on most 'girls' (what do ya guys have against girl writers!. !. !? don't guys 12-15 have the same problems as the girls!. !. !.!? Nothing against guys or anything just wondering why most guys have a problem with girl poetry)
I would say that yes I have seen alot of good poetry on Y!, but then again its the person reading it that likes or dislikes!.
So yeah I like alot of poetry on Y!(not all)!. !. !. you just have to give people a chance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

mmm!. Not very many, the other day, someone posted a poem that was kind of good, but it was very similar to another poem,
and the author realized she/he didn't actually write it!.

I think the real problem is everyone wants to say the poem is Fantastic! Amazing! You're SO talented! because they want 'Best Answer'
I think they might be giving a lot of mediocre poets rather large egos!. I would say, about 10%!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

people should say what they really thing about the poems
if there's a reason you post them in the internet is that so you can get a critic of someone who is objective
not someone who just says good to get his two points!
come on guys make and effort and at least write a setence!.
people like myself posting would like a true opinion!.!.!.so don't be afraid and just speak up!
