Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Things change to edify!. Representational art gave way to impressionism, expressionism, pointillism, (modern art, I mean) to Cubism, abstraction!. All these are valid and necessary toward edification through change!. And if you'd like to visit prehistoric times, the cave paintings were indicative of both representational and modern art which later became part of our human scene and not as deliberately as you might think!. What evolves in poetry is NO exception!Www@QuestionHome@Com I think there's actually a good mix of light and dark poetry out there!. I'm not sure how "dark" poetry is expected to be more edifying!. I just wrote something the other night that is probably dark!.!.!.I was hoping for upbeat and life-affirming (not what came out)!. Light or dark though as long as it rings out as something true than I'm happy with it--and that is true whether I'm writing it, or appreciating someone else's work!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I know very little about "Poetry" -other than it's an expression/explanation of self,once stated the individual moves on until another event impacts their life!.It becomes their way of dealing with the unspeakable issues!. Happy or sad they have released,let go, the best they know how!. Modern poetry really lacks the quality of older poetry and nobody nowadays could hope to compare with the older poets!. I guess it's sort of like art, which has also gotten worse in quality!. There seems not to be a lot of attention paid to beauty!. I don't know if this is just laziness or if the values of the modern world are reflected in art!. It is not a prerequisite for being a poet, just as you are not the final arbiter of what is poetry and what is not!. (In all fairness, I am not that final arbiter either!.
