Question: Is it permissible to call a Father, Daddy!?
Daddy
My daddy was a gentle man,
He loved his poetry,
For hours long he'd sit and read,
His books of rhymes to me!.
He read me tales of sailing ships,
And wreckes upon the sea,
Of tying children to the mast,
I felt it could be me!.
Yes poetry, he loved to read,
He wanted too, to write!.
He always had a little ryhme,
A diddie gay and bright!.
Some were silly, and some were sad,
Some were good, others bad!.
No matter what their quality,
They seemed to make him glad!.
For many years he has been gone,
For him I write these ryhmes!.
I think of all the days we had,
Of all the happy times!.
He was not made like all the rest,
A special man was he!.
A son was what he wanted most,
And that young son was me!.
A love of rythme and of rhyme,
To me he passed along!.
I'll write for him a poem sweet,
I'll sing for him a song!.
Although he's gone he's still with me,
He's here within my heart!.
It's he who writes this poetry,
The pen is just my part!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Never bored!. A wonderful tribute to a unique man who sired a very special son!. I love the feeling you have that he is with you whenever you write poetry, that he is the words and you are the pen!. I have said it many times before; the bonds of love are never broken and live throughout Eternity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really loved the line "It's he who writes this poetry, The pen is just my part!." Even after people leave, I truly believe they are still here among us watching and caring!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I didn`t have a Daddy or a Father!.He was never around Never gots hugs or kisses!. I was the last of six kids!. I was never spoiled!. Never took me anywhere or helped me with my homework!. He just didn`t have any time for me!. He didn`t drink or do drugs!. Just didn`t have time!. He died 11 years ago!. I haven`t ever been to the cemetary !.To me Fathers Day was the worst day of the year!. Happy Fathers Day to all you good Dads out there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really, really loved it! <3 Touching!.!.!.I'm planning to write a poem for my own father tonight!. He hates it when I call him 'Daddy,' cause he figures it sounds petulant!.!.!.so it's the traditional 'Papa' for me!

As far as corrections go, I'm pretty sure 'wreckes' should be spelled 'wrecks!.'

Rhythme = rhythm

Just two small minor typos!. Thank you for sharing this!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've not seen it until this moment, and it's absolutely WONDERFUL! My husband will love it! I, unfortunately, have been disowned by my dad!.!.!.We were VERY close when I was little, but when I decided I didn't want to live by his twisted morals!.!.!.!.well- Nuff said!. I love my dad, I just don't like him!.
Happy Father's Day to all the Papas out there!Www@QuestionHome@Com

My father was not a poet but this poem reminds me of him!. He died this day twenty years back!. It was not Father's Day then!. How strange, today is Father's Day and this poem is an apt reminder of him!. Thank you Dondi, you have given a son's best gift to your Dad
(And mine too!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is so sweet!. It is a dedication and lovely rembrance of your father - your daddy!. It is special that he shared his love of poetry and passed it along to you!. He continues to live through you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When you can look back at the relationship in love than it is more than permissable, it is required!.

For many years he has been gone (he felt present in your words and the emotions they conveyed)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I find your poem to be very sweet and emotional!. It is fine to call your father daddy because you're speaking of your youth and as I'm concerned, many people still refer to their fathers as daddy even though they are adults!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

NEVER BORED I always enjoy you poetry!.I try with my grandchildren ( 2 girls young girls) to appreciate poetry!.I don`t know if I am getting through, but maybe some day they will be able to read it for themselves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

great poem, and yes I'm 26 and I've never called my daddy anything but that!. Keep up the wonderful writing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It seems to have the specific rhyme where the second and fourth lines rhyme but then the rhyme falls out around the middle and kind of throws it off

This is the 4 lines that threw it off

Some were silly, and some were sad,
Some were good, others bad!.
No matter what their quality,
They seemed to make him glad!.

The first two lines are rhyming which makes them different from the rest of the poem and throws it off!. I would rework these 4 lines and it will flow better

also this line "He wanted too, to write!." it doesnt make sense!. I would rework it

Its a nice poem just a few of lines dont match up with everything elseWww@QuestionHome@Com

I have not read this before, but would not be bored upon
a reread, The poem is a lovely history of what was and passed on to you, My Dad was a ladies tailor for Saks Fifth Avenue, I always felt he passed his needle down to me, as well two other sisters, He was born in 1888-1971, Dad's
aren't perfect they do their best with love!
I ejoyed your poem very much!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I enjoyed it!. It seems like something you would read to a child aswell! (Not being offensive) It just reminds me of a poem for a child and not that it isn't well written!. Good rhymes, and good flow!. If it was mine I would think about changing one line "Although he's gone he's still with me," because it has "song" in the line above and I'm not sure if that is supposed to rhyme with "gone" even though it really doesn't sound alike, they still feel the same if you get what I'm saying!. ANYWAY!.!. thanks for writing it, I liked it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dondi!.!.!.
This is a beautiful and most touching tribute to yer Dad!.
As "Semper" put it, a "giant"!.!.!.
A giant of a man for having the love in his heart, and the ability to communicate this love to and for his beloved son!.
A true "gentleman", by the sounds of your words!.!.!.
D

ps!. I now understand the reference in a previous piece regarding your gentle spirit muse!.
pps!. Off to write one for my Dad now!. Thanks for the inspiration!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It’s a heart touching poem!. Additional details, superb! The word Father shows honor in a loving, formal way, while Daddy shows love in a relaxed way!. While neither word is incorrect, I’ve read that some publishers require poetry to be dressed more professionally!. Until what time those changes are necessary, continue to allow the pen to write from the flow of your heart!. Good rhythm and rhyme, but some line adjustments might enhance!. Edit!. Words of a novice, but I totally understand the line (he wanted too, to write!.) It was the same way with my mother!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
