Question: Lines for poem about the Vietnam War!?
Again and again
He sees what’s left behind
Explosions on film reels
Playing in his mind

It took everything he had
Not knowing what would change
Family gone, but beside him
Still silent, he boarded the plane

Stepping into gunfire
Courageous, he would fight
He’d march with friends beside him
Deciding what was right

He cried out “My brother!”
That night when he died
Bare hands digging wreckage
For a body he’d never find

(I need him [soldier character] to get back home so he can remember all of this, but I can't find anymore words!. Help!)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I enjoyed your poem!. And therefore approach advising you with care and gentleness, as a poem is a very personal expression!. And since you've asked for help, here's my opinion!.

You've started with memory by opening with "again and again!." So getting back to this being memory will not take a major transition!. So don't try to force one on to the piece!. I would suggest just express the soldier's thoughts from a "home" perspective!.

Questions to ask: was there ever a "Home" again!? Did the trauma of war completely erase the possibility of "home"!? After all he remains in "again and again!." He bodily came home, where is his soul!? And when "home" did not welcome him or support him (think of the protests), did he find peace in drugs and alcohol!?

Maybe these questions can spark the next stanza of this well conceived work!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
