Crackling leaves underfoot,
Shade and brambles, twisted root,
Slanted trees, still and dead,
Sparrows twitt'ring overhead!.

Sodden trail nears a hault!.
Wonder- was it my own fault!?
"Roads diverged in yellow wood-"
Why, I ne'er understood!.

I trod on without hesitance
Whilst the trees all stand askance!.
There are no choices to condone
As I walk these woods alone!.
