Haphazard they lie
in a cobwebbed corner
Beaten, battered,
and untied

Smart and strong they were
during their shortened life
Constant companion
for only her

Miles they ran free
up and down inclines
Never a callous
always cozy

Together they stay
in that cobwebbed corner

As I read I see a picture of a pair of running/jogging sneakers, with worn holes in the uppers and cracks in the soles!. The cobwebs give it a sense of finality and makes me wonder if they are discarded from age or if the runner is no longer able to run in them!. Beautiful poem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I too, have that old pair of shoes, sitting in the corner, longing for days gone by!.!.!.when I could run free with them in childhood's memories!. I tried to trash them once, but had not the heart, it came apart at the crumbling of their once glistening laces!. Now a home for spiders, which I have to kill, oh I miss the thrill of the race through dew soaked grass, it could last!.!.!.this is a beautiful poem Marguerite, sent me tripping back through fields of memory!. I can't help but think these shoes are worn out, yes, but not replaced with similar shoes for similar activities!. Something in the wording, the tone, says to me that there a farewell in here, a farewell to childhood!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
