Poets on Mars
by Elaine P

Come now you poets, brush and canvas wait,
We need to honor Ares with our songs,
Our ship stands empty on these Martian sands,
Warm golden domes will shelter us this night!.
Together in our new communal dome
We raise our glasses now to poetry!.

Too often back on Earth our poetry
Portrayed our wistful dream to cease our wait,
For years, each day we built our golden dome,
And to each other sang consoling songs,
For long we doubted we could reach this night,
To sing euphoric on these Martian sands!.

A joyful day upon these Martian sands
Is drifting toward the time for poetry,
When we will sing exulting through the night,
Erasing endless years of fruitless wait
To disembark, to raise our thankful songs
Amidst our fellows in this golden dome!.

Phobus and Deimos circle ‘round our dome,
They chase each other over Martian sands,
Appear to pause in flight to hear our songs,
Then wobble drunk on Martian poetry!.
They demonstrate the end of our long wait,
For we at last have reached this blesséd night!.

Which poems shall we choose to sing this night!?
Which music fill our new communal dome!?
Which colors to depict the hopeful wait
Before our touch down here on far-flung sands!?
Shall we create new forms of poetry!?
Or mirror masters of the ancient songs!?

No matter new or old, we’ll sing great songs,
Our words ablaze with images this night,
Bright canvases will burn with poetry,
Flame hot within the safety of our dome!.
As love of language warms these whipping sands,
New poems sing the end of our long wait!.

On Martian sands we paint our poetry,
Our wait has ended on this blissful night,
Our songs soar high above this golden dome!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Congratulations!. I really liked the Deimos and Phobos references, pausing and then wobbling drunk on poetry from none other than The Poets of Mars!. Freezing red desert sands!. See you on Aldebaran!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Very good writing, however I am kind of befuddled at Phobos and Deimos circle 'round our dome chasing eachother over martian sands when Phobos and Deimos are sattelites of The red planet, they were also the horses that pulled Mars' chariot!. All in all your use of poetic license is exquisite!. I enjoyed reading this sestina immensely!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK, Wow, nice job!. i think me and Semper have to do us, one of them!. I hope he sees this!.
My only query,
Second Stanza Line 4 And to each - Before each
Thats IF i understand it right!. "Before" would be a better word
for an iambic, however, this is not said with confidence more curiosity!.

Edit!.

I done one!!
