Question: Poetry help PLEASE !?
LOVELIEST of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide!.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more!.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow!.

whats the use of connotation in this poem !?

and why is it important !?

please help me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As you may know, connotations are basically words with emotion or a meaning!. For instance in this poem words like "bloom", "white", "springs", and primarily "cherry" give the reader a sense of nature/life, rebirth, and regeneration that is tied with the changing of the seasons (winter to spring)!. also look at the parallelism between "hung with bloom" and "hung with snow", they have completely different underlining meanings!. The big picture of this poem is basically that the speaker is dealing with aging, and how he has little time left to see the cherries in bloom!. So you can see how those words fit in to the poem's message!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wearing White for Eastertide!. Threescore years and ten!.
To see the cherry hung with snow!. And take from seventy springs a score,

I think thats right!.!.!.!.!.

I am pretty sure that, that is what your looking for!. It is immportant in all forms of writeing because it brings meaning to words that otherwise you wouldnt know!. It also tells you an idea or feeling that a word invokes person in addition to its literal or primary meaning : the word “discipline” has unhappy connotations of punishment and repression!. Connotation is a word or a few words that have a meaning and then words that follow that, like the beginning of what i just said, with the words that are similar to it but not the same so you can better understand the beginning word!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

connontation- it's suggesting that the springs will continue to pass!.!.!.2nd stanza he's thirty and won't see his twentieth spring again!.!.!.it only leaves me fifty more, suggests that he's aware that his days are numbered!. + they use the cherry hung with snow as the part of life you don't want to miss--before his days run out he will go "about the woodlands"
to see the lovely cherry trees!.!.!.

idk i tried!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I kind of thought it was a little tragically beautiful, reminiscent in a way, and sad!. I'm not sure exactly what it means, but the point of connotation is how the words make you feel!.
Good luck!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just in case, connotation means "the unspoken or unwritten meanings associated with a word beyond the 'dictionary' definition!."

So what's going on on the surface is a kind of mask, beneath which something else entirely is going on!.

Cherry blossoms are so beautiful, and they bloom for only a few days in spring!. So cherry blossoms themselves connote the bittersweet beauty that passes quickly!.

So we have the spring season, Easter, and trees just coming into bloom!. Spring it is often a metaphor for youth!. Easter has the connotation of resurrection (rebirth, things coming back to life)!.

What do these mean to you besides a mere number:
A 20-year-old man!.
A 50-year-old man!.
A 70-year-old man!.

Each age has a connotation -- we can't help it!

When he says that he will double the number of times he sees the cherry trees by visiting them in winter as well as in spring -- and in winter there are only bare branches to see -- again, what is he saying that is just beneath the surface of his words!?

Here's a big hint: If spring is used to represent youth and youthful beauty, what does winter represent!?

By seeing beauty in the tree in winter, what is he saying about the world and about people!?

Why use connotation !. !. !. Well, I guess because poetry is an art!. Anyone can write something like, "Just as winter has its own beauty, so will I find beauty in the winter of my life!."

Even in better written prose, you'd read it once and toss it aside!. But that poem!.!.!. It makes you FEEL (poetry) rather than THINK (prose) its meaning!.

I hope that makes sense!Www@QuestionHome@Com
