To write a story of anguish and sorrow, you must dig deep into your self to find those emotions in their most heightened state!. Even if it brings up terrible things!. Edgar Allen Poe is a brilliant writer and he led a very miserable life, dying alone from alcoholism!. He lost all the women he ever loved, I'm surprised he wasn't committed for insanity for what he went through!.

These are very strong emotions and to make others feel them the way you do, you have to be genuine, don't fake the emotions!. Make them powerful and make a statement!.

"You are aching, you are mad with sadness, you are shaking violently with all the tears you've cried!.!."

These are strong and so must be your poetry!. ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Have you ever heard of Wordsworth's view of poetry that "Poetry is the overflow of powerful emotions recollected in tranquility"!?

I guess that to write depressing and sad poems, you ought to be thoroughly depressed and sad as well!.

I'm sorry I don't know much about poetry writing but I do love poetry dearly!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It would be more helpful if you could post some work!.

Read a lot of the type of poetry you write, and try to write every day--practice makes perfect!.

The best book on poetry writing I've read is 'The Art & Craft of Poetry' by Michael J!. Bugeja!. It was recommended to me by a creative writing professor!. I've read it several times, and each time I read it, I learn something new!. It's a Writer's Digest book, but you could probably find it on amazon!.com!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
