Question: Epitaph Help!?
For our class we are supposed to write an epitaph about ourselves!. The assignment said the epitaph has to be 18 lines!. I cannot write poetry myself let alone an epitaph, I just dont have the mind for it!. Can someone point me to a generic epitaph where I can plug my name in or help me in writing one!. I have been working on this for a solid hour and a half and I just cant write something that works!.

Hi Dan!.!.!.

Wow, 18 lines that's pretty long for an epitaph!. I'm not sure if it has to rhyme!.!.!.but most do (rhyme)!.!.!.!.in this one the second and fourth lines rhyme!.!.!.!.!.but they don't have to!.!.!.and I'm not sure where you need to go with this but!.!.!.

Here's an example: (of rhyme)
God looked around his garden
and saw an empty place!.
He then looked down on
earth, and saw your tired face!.
He put his arms around you
and lifted you to rest!.
God's garden must be a beautiful
place, He only takes the best!.

The above example doesn't do you much good if you are writing your own epitaph, I realize, this is one more written by someone else after your death!.!.!.but it gives you an idea!.

Think of you and what are your characteristics!? (for example)!.!.!.!.(I make people laugh, I play guitar, etc)!.!.!.!.

I always had a way with words
People said that I was funny
I made my mother laugh so much
She even called me "Sonny"

I always had a way with tunes
I could make people want to dance
I could have made it big one day
if I had had the chance

Etc!.!.!. you get the drift!.

But they can not rhyme also:

When someone you love
becomes a memory,
the memory becomes
a wonderful treasure

Think of what you'd want to say!. Something to the people you are leaving behind or something about yourself!.!.!.or a combination!.!.!.Finding an 18 line epitaph that you can just plug your name into isn't going to be likely as most epitaph's are printed on tombstones!.!.!.so they are usually 4-8 lines max!.

But you might be able to do a search for "epitaph examples" and put several together to make it work!.

Or just think of 4 traits that you have and just focus on one per 4 line group make it rhyme (or not if it's not required) and the last two lines just make something from a sample epitaph!.

That's my best suggestion :-)!.!.!.to make it yours!.!.!.but to not have to go too crazy either!.

I don't think the epitaph has to be poetry, since they specified 18 lines!?
Usually epitaph poetry is what is engraved on someone's tombstone or something written on a sympathy card!.
I think they just want you to describe what type of person you are(were), and list all the good qualities about yourself, what you liked doing as hobbies, with a little religious overtone ,maybe something about being in God's care now, etc!.
I could be wrong but thats my story and I'm sticking to it!. ha haWww@QuestionHome@Com

I always thought that an "epitaph" was an inscription on a tomb or headstone!.!.!.
Surely your teacher is taking the mick!?
It'd have to be a pretty big headstone!.
For my money, Spike Milligan provided the best ever epitaph!.!.!.

"I told you I was sick"!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go to a site memorializes the dead!. A monument company, maybe, or a cemetery!. Lots of epitaphs there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
