Question: And where is your pet tonight!?
Coyote Blues

The trickster sings calling all
to come join its hunting time!.
While man may rule jungles stone
coyotes will hunt, matters not where

For as urban sprawl spreads tentacles
those who retreat live not for long,
but those who hunt sing their songs!.
Fresh meat always scents nighttime air

Lambs know not their own damnation
for hunters live upon their gifts
Urban altars proffer wondrous gifts
while sirens sound and screams regale

As mornings brings the sounds of blue
and losses counted bring cries for help
the coyotes nestle, sated and calm,
till evening lights awaken scents

So sing the blues if you wish it so
but hear the echoes of the hunters wail!.
You may walk this land but pay you will,
for hunters will shadow you now and ever!.

And sing coyote blues!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This has echoes of Gotham City!.!.!.!.dark shadows, evil doings afoot, and killers on the loose!.!.!.!.!.when the sun comes up normality returns, but night will return, it always does and then beware!
Although this piece is 2lst Century the phrasing 'matters not where, live not for long, lambs know not etc!. give this a feel almost biblical!.!.!.!.!.which gives it a timeless quality!.

You know the line 'lambs know not!.!.!.!., would 'as' or 'while/whilst' or even 'when' hunters!.!.!.!. work better than 'for'!? !.!.!.!.and though this isn't a true rhyming poem!.!.!.having 'gifts' twice as end lines spoils this verse just slightly!.
Another suggestion - penultimate line - and ever, the full stop would be better if replaced by a dash or dotted lines creating a anticipatory pause (that's a big word for 6 am, Jill)
Marvellous imagery and nicely paced verses makes this a little gem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
