Question: Ever felt like singing hey ho with a merry smile!?
I sat upon a milestone
with but four miles to go!.
Though thirsty, not dreary,
foot sore but not weary,
my journey was seemingly far to slow!.

Walking was the not culprit
for a journey of five miles!.
I had past on many a day
milestones along my way
with a hey ho and merry smiles!.

I sat there and I pondered
what was becoming of me!.
Why has this same road
I walked with a light load
have one mile feeling like three!.

Still young, not sixty eight,
I would say in years but few!.
Looking forward along my track
thus the four miles I turned aback,
strolled home; my journey a mere two!.

Perhaps the morrow will renew
a desire to walk six mile!.
Where at the end enjoy a meal,
then at a market a bargain seal;
returning with a hey ho and merry smile!.

Reaching home my wife I’d embrace,
sit upon my cushioned seat!.
She'd bathe my sweated brow,
In genteel manor make to bow
and place a kiss upon my upturned cheek!.

Then as is want whisper in my ear,
Stay at home tomorrow will you my dear!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

What age can do to one's soul is more slowly recognized than what it does to one's body!. The last two lines are unclear - is the "whisper in my ear" coming from a living mate or one that has passed on!? Since the stanza before seemed to be "wishful thinking" - I was unsure!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love to go for long walks especially if the country side is pretty!. I love walking in North Carolina in Ferguson where it looks like Scotland--I've seen pictures and it reminds me of those!. Walking in twilight down a dirt road with fireflies twinkling all about, just as the moon rises over the mountains--I've walked a mile or so with a hey ho and a merry smile!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Many times have I pondered going forth as I would do in my youth and wander through the trees and fields, crossing streams and returning by nightfall!. Usually a stroll of 10 hours or so with no particular place to go!. Now I walk the 50 yards to the stream and decide to go tomorrow when I'll be more ready for it!. Yes, I can relate to you excellent poem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A serious poem with a sad/funny ending!. Old age brings wisdom and arthritis!. It also brings the ability (to some) to express the passage of time in such beautiful imagery and metaphor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The theme is very good however the rhythm is a little off in some places and it makes a little choppy, to me at least!. Perhaps a slight edit to make it shineWww@QuestionHome@Com

A rythmic look at the limits of youth, age and mind!. Well done!. A minor edit on the last line of the last stanza: comma after want and change whisper to whispered!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
