Question: Can anyone tell me the name of the very old poem about a man who commits suicide when absolutely nobody!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
suspects he would ever do so!. All I can remember is it was written by one of the earlier poets and features a story about a man who would walk down the street each day with a smile on his face apparently as happy as he could be and then surprisingly ends his own life!. also, I seem to recall that the man in the poem was very rich!. And, if I remember correctly, the word " Mister " was in the title!. I don't remember how many times we must've been exposed to this poem back in the 60's when I was in elementary school, but it was quite often!. Any help would be appreciated!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

dwin Arlington Robinson (1869-1935)

Richard Cory

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim!.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked!.

And he was rich—yes, richer than a king—
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place!.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
