on a shelf,
like a book
lacking plot!.

Doesn't it look pretty,

admiring your
artist's hand!.

The light hits it
perfectly,
and the work of ages
is brought out!.

But what of the story!?
I ask!.
Oh that, no matter,
no one will read it!.

Your verses seem to fit a painting rather than a book, that is all!. Mind you it does complicate how the rest of the poem runs!.!.!.!.!.but, I'm sure you will solve that!.

My first thought was that this reflects much of my life!. Then I remembered the days when I worked in a bookstore that specialized in Victorian novels!. They were bought, not for their contents, but for their fine leather bindings - mostly by interior decorators!. They were purchased by the foot!. I remember selling a twelve volume set and I noticed that there were two copies of the same volume!. When I pointed this out, the boss said, "Don't worry, nobody will read them!." The most popular author was Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton, because they were the cheapest!. These days Sir Edward is mostly known only for the first sentence of one of his novels: "It was a dark and stormy night!."Www@QuestionHome@Com
