Sail On
by Elaine P

A gentle breeze floats o'er the shining Bay,
Together we shall sail 'til Sol retires,
And sing our secret songs 'til end of day,
Then home to rest before our glowing fire!.

We'll speak of love in confortable attire,
And huddle close and drink our chardonnay,
For you are someone whom I do admire,
And I will love you near or far away!.

As Luna rises, we will go to bed,
And do as lovers do when they are wed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am not sure this is Octava Rima -- but I'm still trying to work my way through understanding the format!.!.!. It is new to me!.

I don't think this is true Octava Rima, but I like your version very much!. It is charming and elegant -- easy to read!.
Write on!.!.!.!.

A poem, following octava rima form, has eight stanzas,
with each stanza consisting of eight lines of verse!.
Each stanza contains a unit of six lines
followed by a unit of two lines,
giving the poem an
ABAB ABCC form!.

Here I deleted two lines to create the first stanza of the octava rima!. !. !. now, just 7 more to go !.!.!. I think!.

Would love to learn more about this!.

Ottava rima
The ottava rima stanza in English consists of eight iambic lines, usually iambic pentameters!. Each stanza consists of three rhymes following the rhyme scheme a-b-a-b-a-b-c-c!. The form is similar to the older Sicilian octave, but evolved separately and is unrelated!. The Sicilian octave is derived from the medieval strambotto and was a crucial step in the development of the sonnet, whereas the ottava rima is related to the canzone, a stanza form!.

According to this definition you got a bit carried away, but I think I like your form better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This good one took me back some 54 years to Colwyn Bay in North Wales!. Only it was to a caravan and a cup of cocoa, and I think that I can just about remember what happened after we retired!. Oh yes, now I remember, we went to sleep as it was that time in the month!.

A very beautiful poem, which I liked very much!.
