Position:Home>Poetry> Tinted Stories?Question:Everyone knows the story- the stretched and borrowed rumor, the echo of the truth. It's life has reached each wall and locker each ear and heart and tear and laugh; each smile has come from your story, such an untrue tale so spun from yourself. A whispered gloat, a fractured secret.. bent and twisted to come alive. Each one of your friends knows. Yet you do not; I know the story. How dare you? {This isn't about normal rumors. It's about rumors between friends. For instance, say friends A, B, C, and D. Well. A tells B that C did such and such because C told A and so did D, but now C's mad because nobody told her except B. But it isn't like normal rumors.} Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Everyone knows the story- the stretched and borrowed rumor, the echo of the truth. A few things were off: - "each ear and heart and tear and laugh" The line is too long, simplify it, cut one of the [and ___] out. - "Each one of your friends knows" Change [your friends] to [them] give it more mystery, a little ambiguity. - "How dare you?" Great line but in a poem about rumors (damaging, painful, victimizing) the line is a little strong, [how could you] may work better. Actually on second thought the raw anger and hurt of [how dare you] is an interesting twist- ignore my other comment. These lines were amazing: "the stretched and borrowed rumor," Actually except for the ones I pointed out, they were all amazing; but that one above is definitely my favourite. And no offence but I really don't care about the story because the poem is great. It's about rumors- period. It may have been inspired by something more complex but it has a Universal Truth to it and That's what makes it good! |
