Position:Home>Poetry> Are you leaving behind smiles?

Question:True story.
Wonderful man, father, grandfather.
Scot by birth, shoemaker by trade.
All saddened by his passing.
Going through his few belongings
Found...a box, with lovely script written on it.
"Pieces of String, too short to use."

PIECES OR STRING
They were pieces of string to short to use
Set aside by a loving hand
"Who knows?", He thought
I may indeed have a use
I will Save each, and see

As He gathered each
Some Red
Some Black
Some Blue
Some of every Hue

He said,"Here, just right for a Butterfly"
And you, of a bright green hue
Come, and be a frog for me
And you, the brown, black, yellow, and white
You shall be People made from My Heart

No small thing
Not even this String
Is too small
To be noticed
And be of use to The Master

What a wonderful title! Can the pieces be tied together somehow? I'm sorry for your loss. I hope to leave behind a smile or two when my turn comes.

..............ponders................

There are many things taken from this

..............ponders.................

I think in it's length, more can not be said.

Wonderful. I would say more but my string is too short!

really nice and interesting...and the script, i guess, may have a story hidden in it...

This is wonderful (I'm not just saying this because of you know what).

There is a whole person in that 'pieces of string, too short to use' - it is my mother encapsulated in one short sentence. I know you think if will inspire a smile but it does say more than that.
And the lovely script - my father and mother both wrote in this elaborate copperplate style which alas no one uses anymore.
I loved it. Thank you.

No but she is

We all keep things we cannot further use
But to throw them out, we do refuse.
The box of string might have seen better days of glory
But if gone, wouldn't have made such a lovely story.

There was a wonderful father,
also a grandfather
Everyone saddened by his passing
As I went through his belongings
There was a box with lovely script
written on it.
Pieces of string, too short to use.

Pieces of Strings:
A box of strings is what I find
I go through my mind
trying to figure out what to do
different colors yellow green blue
I was just thinking
Are they good enough for braiding?
Or still too short
I thought of this as last resort.
Or with the shoes
tie them together another use.
my sincere sympathy
a tragedy like this leaves someone empty.

I don't have a witty answer...........
If I did .........Mine would say ...........
Exactly what what Gale S said

Very sweet. TD

Wow,I hope to leave some smiles behind. You know it's not what you take,it's what you leave behind.

Aha! You all grumble and groan, and mumble and. moan at my awful jokes and puns. And even worse is me writing verse. And thus it was with my father. Many of his jokes, and certainly the whole gestalt of his humor, appears here through me. And though you frown and scowl now, you'll say the same of me, that I say of him. I miss him now that he's gone.

I loved it!!! :)

Great, creative, awsome!!!

Your sooooooooo awsome at this!!!

Poignant. Moving. Melikes.

This is beautiful!!!

I plan to leave behind lots of smiles. They'll be dancing for joy in the streets because of my demise.
