Death's Freedom

Cold rain fell, drenching us all,
Everyone ran for cover,
Leaving her dead and forgotten.
With a heavy heart I stayed,
How could they be so uncaring?
Was it not she who lifted them
In the darkest hour
When all threatened to consume us?
Soaking from head to toe,
You would never see my tears,
And my gentle sobs went unheard.
Sweet angel of God,
With a selfless soul
Your life became the greatest gift
You gave to us in the night
When evil was afoot.
Without your sacrifice
Death would have conquered life
Leaving all hope of salvation broken
And lifeless on the ground.
Please, my heavenly Father,
Accept this child,
For a child she was,
As a part of the chorus
That sings in the heavens.
Give her wings to soar
Above the clouds
And grant her eternal freedom
From the afflictions that had been hers
During her life on Earth.
A soft cry tumbled from my lips
As I finished this prayer.
I glanced about to find
The courtyard empty and foreboding
Closing my eyes I imagined
Angelica sitting with God and His son
By the golden gates of heaven,
A warm smile filled her face,
Peace was at last hers.
One last tear slipped down my cheek,
She gave her life in the mist
Of terror to save those she loved,
And some she never knew,
And her reward has been found
By the open gates of heaven.
I will not forget you, my daughter.

You are a terriffic poet. You really need to write a book of your poems and have them published. I would buy it. Keep up the good work.

i think it's a great poem but a little sad.
