like hot pastrami at katz's on main street
like a bright nickname on my downtown express,
She was quadratic Mahler
and the perfec gymnist

Now she is gone like a flat coke on sunday morning
like melted ice cream
like philadephia eagles

When I had my keys, life was great
like sunshine pouring on my face
like birds singing all day

And now they're missing
like the moon on a sunny afternoon
like leaves on the trees in the fall

When they were there, my keys, were like detergent to my dishwasher,
like white socks to my Nike gym shoes,
like my birthday watch to my tan bony wrist.
They opened my house
and the car door.

Now they are lost like a bad toddler in a grocery store
like an unwritten book
like a forgotten dream

My keys have disappeared
like two cockroaches
on the stage
